Install the HyperWire Card
The driver for the HyperWire card is installed with the Automation1 software. You can install the software before or after you install the HyperWire card.
For testing and for compiling and writing programs, you can operate without a HyperWire card. You cannot connect to drives without a HyperWire card.
IMPORTANT: A HyperWire PCI Express card is necessary only if you are using a PC-based controller. Drive-based controllers, such as the iXC4, already have a HyperWire port that can be used to connect other drives.
IMPORTANT: Do not install the HyperWire card in a PCI Express expansion chassis. You must install the card in a PCI Express slot, ×4 or larger, on the motherboard.
- Power off the computer and disconnect power to the computer.
- To get access to the motherboard, remove the computer system cover.
- Find an available PCI Express slot, ×4 or larger. If necessary, refer to your computer manual for information about available slots. The HyperWire card is a standard PCI Express card and will not fit in a slot made for a low profile card.
- Remove the cover of the available slot that you want to use.
- Carefully push the HyperWire card into the slot.
- Attach the metal tab on the card to your computer with the method in your computer manual. This is typically a mounting screw.
- Put the cover on the computer.
- Connect the computer to the power supply and power on the computer.
