System Requirements
Automation1 PC-Based Controller
A PC-Based controller is a Windows PC that has INtime installed and uses a HyperWire card to connect to downstream drives. With this configuration, you must install both Automation1-iSMC and Automation1-MDK.
Minimum requirements to run Automation1-MDK
- Processor: Intel Core i5 or equivalent.
- RAM: 8GB.
- Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit version 1607 or newer, or Windows 11.
- Graphics: Minimum 1920 x 1080 resolution.
Minimum requirements to run Automation1-iSMC
Automation1-iSMC must be installed on a PC configuration that Aerotech has validated and approved. Aerotech does not guarantee the real-time capabilities of a PC that is not approved for Automation1 installation because BIOS settings and chipsets are different for each motherboard manufacturer.

- Operating System: You can install Automation1-iSMC on any Windows 10 PC that is validated to have real-time performance. Windows 11 is not supported for Automation1-iSMC. For a list of supported PC configurations, see PC Selection, Configuration, and Optimization for Aerotech Controllers.
Automation1 Drive-Based Controller
A Drive-Based controller is an Aerotech drive with an integrated motion controller. This includes drives such as iXA4, iXC2, iXC2e, iXC4, iXC4e, iXC6e, iXI4, iXL2e, iXL5e, and iXR3. With this configuration, you must install Automation1-MDK on a PC if you want to communicate with the controller over USB or Ethernet. It is not necessary for you to install Automation1-iSMC when you use a drive-based controller.

- Processor: Intel Core i5 or equivalent.
- RAM: 8GB.
- Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit version 1607 or newer, or Windows 11.
- Graphics: Minimum 1920 x 1080 resolution.
