Jog Pad Module
Optional Purchase Necessary: To use MachineApps, you must purchase the necessary licenses. For more information, refer to Automation1 MachineApps.
Add the Jog Pad module to a MachineApp to have dedicated controls that jog one or more groups of axes.
You can configure multiple groups of axes to use with the jog pad. Each group has between one and four axes and uses any or all of the four jog pad positions: horizontal, vertical, and two diagonals. Each axis that is assigned to the jog pad has a positive jog button and a negative jog button. You can use a low-speed or high-speed jog mode and select one of the jog types in the table that follows.
Table: Jog Types
Jog Type | Description |
---|---|
Freerun |
The axis will move at the specified speed. |
Distance |
The axis will move the specified distance at the specified speed. The move will complete even if the jog button is released before the motion gets to the specified distance. |
Distance Hold |
The axis will move the specified distance at the specified speed. The move will abort if the jog button is released before the motion gets to the specified distance. |
You can assign only one jog group to the jog pad. The name of the selected jog group shows in the module. Use the drop-down box or click the left or right arrows to change to a different jog group.
You can add the Jog Pad module to a Primary module region of a MachineApp.

How to jog the axes of an Automation1 controller in a MachineApp
- Open Automation1 MachineApps and click an Automation1 controller.
- Click an available MachineApp to launch it. The customized user interface that contains the Jog Pad module comes into view.
- Click the directional jog button to start asynchronous motion on an axis.
- If you are in Freerun mode, the motion stops when you release the button.
- If you are in Distance mode, the motion stops when the axis reaches the configured distance. If you want to stop the motion before the axis moves the configured distance, you must use the Abort button on the application toolbar.
- If you are in Distance Hold mode, the motion stops when the axis moves the configured distance or when you release the button, whichever occurs first.
- The jog pad uses either the High Speed or Low Speed value that you configured for an axis in the MachineApps workspace in Automation1 Studio. You can change which speed is used by selecting either High Speed or Low Speed in the module. To see the speed and distance settings that will be used when you jog, click View Jog Settings in the module toolbar.
- The center panel shows if keyboard jogging is active or inactive. When keyboard jogging is active, the jog pad is available, and you can press the numeric keypad buttons on your keyboard to jog.
