Select a Maximum Target Crossover Frequency

To select a maximum target crossover frequency that is applicable for your stage, make sure that you think about the type of axis that you are tuning and its payload. Aerotech offers a diverse group of precision motion stages that have very different expected dynamic performance. The chart that follows can help you find an approximate value for the recommended maximum target crossover frequency for an unloaded axis. This value is based on the type of stage that you are using.

The size, the mass, and how flexible the axis payload is all have an important effect on the expected crossover frequency.

For Example

Let's say that you look at the chart and find a maximum target crossover frequency that is applicable to the type of stage you are using. But your axis has a payload that is near its load capacity or a payload that is very compliant. As a result, the axis can do only a small quantity of the maximum target crossover frequency that you selected from the chart.

The dynamic performance of some stage types, such as gantries, can also depend on travel length. A longer travel length corresponds to a lower target crossover frequency.
